Who We Are
Mayan Families works in the Lake Atitlán region of Guatemala to implement community-led programs that address systemic barriers and build cultural strength and resilience. Our work is driven by the expertise of Mayan staff and community leaders towards long-term, meaningful change in the areas of education, nutrition & health, and economic development.
Mayan Families, a registered US 501(c)3 organization in the US, works in partnership with our legally-registered Guatemalan partner association to implement our programs on the ground.
We work as a kind, effective and supportive team and in collaboration with the communities we serve.
We act honestly and ethically, thereby earning the trust and confidence of both communities and supporters.
Our processes and use of resources are reasonable, justified and clearly communicated.
We treat all people kindly and fairly, with dignity and empathy.
We recognize our role as facilitators, centering and valuing local expertise. We evolve based on constant learning and self-improvement.
We thoughtfully and responsibly manage our resources to ensure both efficient use and intentional impact.
We believe in dignified, equitable relationships with the community that we serve, promoting agency, active participation and service to others.
Strategic Plan 2020-2025
Mayan Families has undertaken an intensive strategic planning process, having put in place the building blocks necessary and restructuring under a new administration over the course of a year. We are very proud to present to our donors, supporters and community the long-term vision and direction of the organization and the steps that we will take to get there. We are grateful for your partnership as we evolve and deepen our work in Guatemala and look forward to many years of doing great work together.
