Amigos Mayan Families is our legally-registered organization in Guatemala, which allows us to work in Guatemala respecting all Guatemalan laws, tax responsibilities, and structures.
The two organizations work collaboratively within a legally-binding partnership agreement that assures transparency and mutual oversight. The organizations share an Executive Director and have an overlap of 3 board members, including the treasurer, to maintain healthy communication, transparency, and collaboration. Regular audits and financial reports are required of both organizations, and both work in full compliance with the laws of their specific jurisdictions.
Mayan Families employs a small handful of our international staff/interns and AMF employs all Guatemalan citizens and residents, which is the vast majority of our staff. Our Executive Director is a legal employee of Mayan Families and the legal representative of Amigos Mayan Families.
