Chicken Program

Protein deficiency is one of the greatest causes of malnutrition in Guatemala.

Raising chickens gives families a sustainable source of protein from eggs and meat, as well as an opportunity for supplemental income from selling eggs and grown chickens. Chickens are inexpensive to raise and maintain.

Mayan Families distributes baby chickens to needy families who are capable of raising them and would like to be part of this program. We distribute 10 per family and include a supply of feed. In order to maximize value, we purchase and distribute through truckload purchases for groups of at least 20 families per distribution.
